DOMINION
A provocative new show about animals, humans, and the spirit that binds us.

IONA's 25th ANNIVERSARY SEASON
World Premiere of DOMINION

Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, May 9 at 8 p.m.
Sunday, May 10 at 4 p.m.

Hawaii Theatre Center

Through dance, spoken word, and multi-media imagery, DOMINION delves into the relationship between humans and animals, the food industry, and the loss of species as a precursor to human extinction. Vibrant contemporary dance pieces detail our playful relationships with domesticated animals and the need for stewardship of wild animals, while fresh produce literally tossed on stage, examines our growing interest in sustainable agriculture.

IONA Artistic Director Cheryl Flaharty has created a visual and visceral masterpiece featuring the largest cast ever — with 25 dancers — including passionate solo performances by IONA veterans Malia Yamamoto, Summer Partlon, and Sami Akuna.

Notorious for their luxuriant costumes, elaborate staging and inspiring imagery, IONA is taking DOMINION a step further with the aid of elaborate LED video screens, digital animations, and interactive GoPro cinema between the performers and audience members. The staging will feature a life-size cage for acrobatics, a seven-foot elephant tusk (reproduction), and other stunning theatrical elements.

“While DOMINION incorporates some very provocative material, the show is as humorous as it is thought provoking - and stunningly beautiful,” said Artistic Director Cheryl Flaharty. “DOMINION is a feast for the eyes and nourishment for the heart.”
